Guillard's f/2 Marine Enriched Seawater is a common and most widely used culture medium designed for growing marine microalgae. The concentration
of the original formulation, termed "f Medium" (Guillard & Ryther, 1962) has been reduced by half (Guillard, 1975). The original medium
(Guillard & Ryther, 1962) used ferric sequestrene; we have substituted Na₂EDTA·2H2O and FeCl₃·6H2O.
WARNING:
- If you DO NOT culture diatoms or specifically DO NOT require Silica, omit to reduce precipitation!
- Reduced amounts of Nitrogen can significantly raise lipid content, lower biomass production or produce other unexpected results, including a culture crash.
Recommended for experienced aquaculturists only!
- Dilute using distilled/deionized water (dH2O) only!
Our f/2 Products:
- f/2 Concentrate¹
- f/2 Concentrate w/Silica
- f/2 Concentrate, 75-50-25 Nitrogen²
¹ Not suitable for diatoms
² Reduced Nitrogen, number indicates percent of required Nitrogen
Directions:
For f/2 strength add 0.25 ml (5 drops) of our f/2 concentrate per liter of sterilized seawater. For "f Medium" strength add 0.5 ml (10 drops)
per liter of sterilized seawater.
